Testimonial
Education, for me, is of paramount importance. As an educator for the last eight years, my position at the adult education centre « La Clé à Mots-Lettres » made me rediscover my dreams of pursuing university studies. I must admit that the perseverance and courage demonstrated by the learners at the centre also encouraged me to live this dream.
Since my home is four hours away from Sudbury, I chose to register in Envision courses, in 2004, to earn a bachelor of arts in psychology. Being a wife and mother of three children, of whom two also started their postsecondary studies over the same period, this option allowed me to continue to be available to my family all the while continuing to earn a salary.
Even though my academic success required much perseverance, organization and patience, what played a bigger role were the encouragement, support and love I received from my family. I would like to thank my husband Carold and my children - Cindy, Christine and Cédric - for all of their support. I would also like to thank my family, in-laws, friends and colleagues.
Lastly, I am very grateful to the Envision staff who, by offering quality courses and being helpful and friendly, allowed me to make my dream a reality. Furthermore, faculty members were prompt and cordial in offering help and, despite the distance, always listened to me and were very professional. Thank you!
Lucie Germain was admitted to the bachelor of arts in psychology at Laurentian University in 2004. She completed the course requirements through distance education and, in September 2009, began her studies at the School of Education (Francophone). Her goal is to earn a bachelor of education and teach in her community. In the photo above, Lucie is with her daughter, Christine Bergeron, a history student at Laurentian University.

The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) at Laurentian University was founded in 1960 to accommodate students wishing to study on campus on a part-time basis. To respond to off-campus students’ needs for autonomy and self-directed study, the distance education program was launched in September 1972. In 1986, CCE commissioned a local business to develop an identity and logo for its distance education program and Envision was the result. Since its inception, our Envision program has grown from one course to an inventory of over 360 courses offered in a variety of delivery modes and now offers numerous complete degrees and several certificate programs.
While the majority of the distance education courses are offered through CCE, many others are offered through Laurentian's federated universities:
University of Sudbury - The University of Sudbury is a university in the Catholic tradition committed to bilingualism and the heritage of Canada’s First Nations. It offers courses in Folklore, Native Studies, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.
Huntington University College - Affiliated with the United Church of Canada, Huntington offers courses in Gerontology, Philosophy and Religious Studies.
Thorneloe University College - Thorneloe is a university of the Anglican faith. It offers courses in Classical Studies, Religious Studies, Theatre Arts, and Women’s Studies.
CCE also administers the On-campus Spring Session program, as well as the Off-campus program, and offers academic counselling to all part-time students in a Bachelor of Arts degree regardless of the mode of course delivery. CCE has been the recipient of awards for excellence in programming from municipal, provincial, and national organizations.
We welcome new students and wish our current students success in their academic endeavours and profoundly hope they will join the thousands of our graduates who have realized their dreams of achieving a university education by taking our courses and programs.
